In the context of ICRA 2024, held in Yokohama, Japan, between the 13th and 17th of May, SoftGrip will be part of the “Advancing Sustainable Food Systems through Agri-Robotics Innovations” workshop, organised by Prof Matteo Cianchetti (The BioRobotics Institute, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna), coordinator of our Horizon2020 project, as well as Prof Josie Hughes (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), Prof Shinichi Hirai (Ritsumeikan University) and Dr. Marija Popović (TU Delft). Additionally, the program committee comprises Dr. Martina Maselli and Niccolò Pagliarani from the BioRobotics Institute, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.

The workshop will take place on May 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will touch upon a variety of topics, from machine vision and deep learning for precision agriculture and technologies for sustainable agriculture to sensing in crop monitoring and economics, ethics, and environmental aspects of robotics in the food industry. The 12 speakers will contribute to the workshop with their expertise, and so will Thanasis Mastrogeorgiou (TWI Hellas), presenting cost-efficient approaches to computer vision, utilizing depth cameras for automated harvesting.

There will be different panels for fruitful discussions and a poster session. The two best poster presentations will be awarded to the “Best soft robotics solution for agri-tech” and “Best sustainable robotic solution.”
